Homeschooling Under Attack

If you haven't heard the State of California Court of Appeal had this decision. Now Texas is one of the least involved states as far as homeschooling is concerned. But, this decision could have a ripple effect. I know a lot of homeschooling families and I have to say they take it seriously. The decision to homeschool your children is not one you make lightly. I'm sure there are those that abuse the system but that is true in all areas of life. The language in this decision is clear. The decision is now on the path to become a legal precedent for other cases.

If homeschooling is under attack, private schools will be next. In my experience with private schools, most of the teachers are not certified, especially at the elementary level. They would be no more qualified to teach than the homeschool parents.

The evidence is in the quality of students that are turned out from homeschooling. Colleges seek them, they score higher on test, win academic competitions and the list could go on. You are able to teach your child in a way that they learn best, using curriculum that is best for them (and not the 25 other kids in the class). There is no evidence that homeschool children are not receiving adequate education but there is overwhelming evidence that they are receiving a far better education.

And as far as socialization, man I hate that one, most homeschool children are not social retards. My children have many friends and socialize very well. My husband is a teacher and at 46 (almost 47 honey) says he doesn't like being exposed to what he is exposed to at school. He is a grown man and hates what he sees. The longer he teaches the more determined he is in saying our kids will never go to public school. This is a public school teacher saying this. Why would I put my children there? I am to train and equip them but to put throw them into all the public school system has to offer before they are equipped is not in the plan for them.

I know not everyone agrees with homeschooling but do we really want the state telling us how to raise our children. It is time to take notice and take a stand. Don't bury your head in the sand. The issue of homeschooling may not directly affect you but the next issue may. Think about it!
